Thoughts on Motherhood

Crying is Part of Motherhood

Dear moms, crying is a part of motherhood.

IT IS OK TO CRY.

IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU WEAK.

IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU “SOFT” OR OVERLY SENSITIVE.

IT DOES NOT MEAN YOUR KIDS WILL BE “SOFT”, OVERLY SENSITIVE, OR WEAK.

CRYING IS PART OF MOTHERHOOD.

YOU ARE NOT A “BAD” MOM IF YOU CRY.

YOU ARE NOT LESS THAN IF YOU CRY.

YOU ARE NOT DRAMATIC IF YOU CRY.

YOU ARE NOT LESS AUTHORITATIVE IF YOU CRY.

CRYING IS PART OF MOTHERHOOD.

It is ok to cry just as much as it’s ok to laugh.

CRY WHEN YOU’RE HAPPY.

CRY WHEN YOU’RE SAD.

CRY WHEN YOU’RE FRUSTRATED.

CRY WHEN YOU’RE PROUD.

Cry whenever you feel like it because it is ok. You don’t need permission to shed tears. A good cry can be therapeutic and part of self-care. Your children can benefit from seeing you cry. Motherhood can be tough, overwhelming, joyous, and surprising. Why make it harder by holding back tears?

Moms can be tough, brave, strong, and still have a good cry. Mothers can hardworking, powerful, resilient, and still cry. Mothers can do anything including cry.

If you need to have a quick sniffle, have it. There may be a time when a long sob alone after the kids go to sleep is needed. You may give your little one a big hug with a few tears when they surprise you by doing something wonderfully surprising.

It’s your motherhood journey…cry if you want to.
